Old School Asian Pop Records << Back
A-Go-Go! Jan 16, 2008 at 12:00
When I looked at some of these album covers, it made me think of the syrupy sweet Khmer songs I listened to on a twelve hour bus ride in Cambodia. Everybody was smiling and singing along, it was magical and I loved it. For about fifteen minutes. Then I just wanted off that crappy bus so I could go have a cry.

Anyway, these album covers are from one guy’s huge collection of 60s and 70s Thai, Singaporean, Indonesian, and Japanese pop records. They are super daggy and super sweet. Enjoy them, and you can see many more at pbase.com.

Everybody thinks they could be a Roc Star << Back
Autumn / Winter 08-09 Sep 02, 2008 at 10:14
Yesterday we brought you Hectic’s Autumn and Winter collection, and now their sibling label Roc Star has released their range for the colder months. Pity we’re on the other side of the world. But somehow we can make these goodies work in 36 degree heat. Can’t we.

The Japanese label gained a little more recognition outside the land of the rising sun since collaborations with Ed Banger and So Me. This season they’re bringing colour back, and to those who were burnt by last year’s neon overload, be not afraid because Roc Star do it right. Crazy patterns, interesting fabrics (hey there PVC, haven’t seen you much outside of strip clubs and raves at the Altona Leisure Centre circa 1997, but welcome!) and some of the cutest models ever team up for the lookbook. You might recognise a few faces like Taz Arnold, Big-O and the Teriyaki Boyz too.

Pretty much love it.

Amazing constructed landscape photography Aug 18, 2008 at 03:24
Winner of the 2007 Artist of the Year Award by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Korean artist Yeondoo Jung is well respected for his art form. In his Locations series, he approaches his photography in a unique way opting to utilise traditional prop making techniques and scenery construction to create his ideal custom landscapes. A bit of a purist, his landscapes combine natural and artificial elements without any digital manipulation giving his images an awesome nostalgic feel. Amazing work.

Excellent photos by that YouTube guy – Noah Kalina << Back
Surprise surprise Aug 28, 2008 at 03:34
You’ve probably heard of him but may only know of him as that YouTube guy… You know the one that took photos of himself every day for six years and made it into a movie only to have it viewed 10 million times. Well the folks at booooooom kindly inform me that there’s a bit more than initially meets the eye with this cyber-celebrity. For one, he has a name – Noah Kalina, and another thing, the guy’s actually a really good photographer.

Check out some samples of his photography to the right of this post and for more of his work visit NoahKalina.com

About neaat

The NETWORK OF ENTERTAINING ASIAN AMERICAN TALENT ORG is an independent site for information on Asian American Arts, Talent, Culture, and Entertainment. NEAATO started as a myspace page under http://www.myspace.com/asianamericannetwork and also a blog in 2007 (http://www.neaat.wordpress.com/) by Donnytello Tran. The idea was made when we noticed our friends on Myspace were posting more information about their work online through bulletins instead of waiting to get published in magazines or an Asian American Blog. We decided to put all these ‘posts’ together and share it with anyone that was interested and NEAATO was born. The current NEAATO blog site is http://www.neaato.com/. NEAATO was inspired by Bruce Lee’s quote: “"To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”
