PROGRAM 27 – VIETNAM OVERTURES ( USA , 2008) Dir./Wtr.: Stephane Gauger – Filmmaker in attendance

May 03 – 1:00 PM – Directors Guild of America , Theater 3

VIETNAM OVERTURES: Is a documentary about a rescue, but unlike most rescue stories from that embattled country, this one is about the recovery of a centuries old classical music tradition, another casualty of the long war there.  Director Stephanie Gauger chronicles the musical dialogue between Vietnamese and Norwegian conservatories, as they work together to prove again that music is, indeed a universal language.

PROGRAM 43 – ALL ABOUT DAD ( USA , 2008) Dir./Wrt.: Mark Tran – Filmmaker in attendance

May 04 – 9:00PM – Downtown Independent

All ABOUT DAD: Is the classic conflict between an “Old World” father and his “ New World ” kids but is completely new because its focus is an ignored community: Vietnamese Americans.  The film follows a Vietnamese American family with a loving but strict dad whose rigid expectations threaten to thwart his children’s ambitions.  Son Ty is a college student who refuses to be the “model minority” Dad wants him to be while daughter Linh has kept her fiancé’s Buddhism a secret fearing rejection because Dad is quite Catholic.

About neaat

The NETWORK OF ENTERTAINING ASIAN AMERICAN TALENT ORG is an independent site for information on Asian American Arts, Talent, Culture, and Entertainment. NEAATO started as a myspace page under http://www.myspace.com/asianamericannetwork and also a blog in 2007 (http://www.neaat.wordpress.com/) by Donnytello Tran. The idea was made when we noticed our friends on Myspace were posting more information about their work online through bulletins instead of waiting to get published in magazines or an Asian American Blog. We decided to put all these ‘posts’ together and share it with anyone that was interested and NEAATO was born. The current NEAATO blog site is http://www.neaato.com/. NEAATO was inspired by Bruce Lee’s quote: “"To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”
