Hello all, it’s us here at Visual Communications, L.A.’s very own Asian Pacific American media arts center. We have a ton of important deadlines coming up in the next couple of weeks that we’d like you to know about, so please read on, and feel free to forward this information to all your online friends, or download/save to your hard drive for future reference.

Nov. 16: EARLY DEADLINE: L.A. Asian Pacific Film Fest 08

24th Edition Slated for May 1 through 8, 2008
opening_nite_dga ATTENTION, filmmakers, video artists, and music video directors! This is your wake-up call that the Early Deadline to submit your work for the 24th edition of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, set for May 1 through 8, 2008 is fast approaching! If your entry isn’t submitted online or postmarked by this Friday, the Final Deadline fee of $35US kicks in the following morning through the Final Deadline date of December 21, so hurry and submit! Thru Dec. 5: ARMED WITH A CAMERA 2008

Seventh Round of Pioneering Fellowship Now Taking Applications
Dedline to Submit: December 5, 2007

Visual Communications’ pioneering media workshop for emerging artists, the ARMED WITH A CAMERA FELLOWSHIP, is now seeking applicants for its seventh fellowship round. AWC will award up to ten fellows $500 to complete, within a four-month span of time, a five-minute digital video. Through AWC, emerging media artists will capture their world, surroundings and outlook on life as a part of a new generation of Asian Pacific Americans. Complete fellowship guidelines, as well as a downloadable application form, are now available at the Visual Communications website.

Applications for VC Helmer Position DUE Nov. 16
Visual Communications’ job search for the position of Executive Director concludes this Friday, Nov. 16. Become a part of the nation’s premiere Asian Pacific American media arts center, with a dynamic profile of producing, presenting, training and preserving the APA image on the large and small screen and online.

Nov. 16: Justin Lin’s FINISHING THE GAME

VC FILMFEST 07 Opening Nighter Opens in Texas, Philly, Seattle
finishing_game Director Justin Lin’s scathing comedy about the search for the “replacement” Bruce Lee continues its theatrical run with openings this weekend in Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and Seattle, as well as via video-on-demand through your local cable and satellite provider. Details on where the film is playing and will open can be found here. The theatrical release of FINISHING THE GAME is another great opportunity for our Asian American filmmakers and community to be seen and heard. So look for it, and check it out — you’ll be glad you did!

Here are some happenings we recommend you should check out:

If you’re in L.A. from Nov. 15-18, carve out some time to check out the inaugural Korean Film Festival in Los Angeles (KOFFLA), which takes place at the Fairfax 3 Theatres in L.A.’s fairfax district. The 15-film line-up opens on Thursday, Nov. 15 with Kim Tai-sik’s DRIVING WITH MY WIFE’S LOVER; and closes on Sunday, Nov. 18 with Han Jaerim’s THE SHOW MUST GO ON. Make sure to save Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 for the 2007 edition of OutFest FUSION, the only film festival devoted to LGBT filmmaking voices of color. Visual Communications is proud to serve as a community co-presenter for the Festival, and encourages one and all to attend some, if not all, of the screenings, panels and special events.
