San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival
Assistant Director & Programmer

The Center for Asian American Media seeks a highly qualified individual to
join the year-round staff of the San Francisco International Asian American
Film Festival (SFIAAFF) in a key film programming and management capacity.
The SFIAAFF is the largest event of its kind in the nation, annually
presenting over 130 films and videos over an 11-day run in mid-March. 2009
marks its 27th year. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing the
development and implementation of the Festival¹s annual program, in close
collaboration with the Festival Director and Program Manager. Areas of
responsibility include: film programming and administration, strategic
planning of marketing and publicity, staff management, public speaking,
guest hospitality, programmatic travel and oversight of key areas of event

Position is rigorous, dynamic, creative and requires ambition, initiative
and superior communication, organizational and management skills.

SPECIFIC DUTIES (partial list):
Program Development and Implementation
€ Collaborative development of annual Festival film program: scope,
tributes, focuses
€ Filmmaker and distributor relations
€ Film tracking, solicitation, review
€ Event scheduling and slotting
€ Programmatic travel
€ Program note and essay writing

Staff Management
€ Management, coaching and supervision of several Festival staff, including
Publicity, Print Traffic, Box Office and Marketing Coordinators
€ Management of weekly staff meetings

Marketing and Publicity Strategy
€ Ensure proper presentation of Festival campaign and program in public
€ Contribute to development of annual Festival marketing plan
€ Work with Festival publicist to generate key press messaging and releases

€ Manage internal complimentary ticket policies
€ Oversee production and design of advertising and print collateral
€ Maintain Festival programming databases
€ Coordinate non-festival screenings

CAAM seeks an individual who is passionate about Asian American, Asian and
independent film and video. Qualified candidates would be comfortable
working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, where adaptability, teamwork,
resourcefulness and organizational skills are essential. Candidates should

€ Exhibition and Film Festival experience
€ Knowledge of Asian American communities and Asian American and Asian
€ Program management, personnel supervision and organizational leadership
€ Superior communication skills (including writing and public speaking)
€ Programmatic vision and ideas
€ Command of MS Office and Filemaker Pro software
€ Fluency with Photoshop, In-design, Illustrator a plus
€ Film production experience highly preferred

August 4, 2008 start-date, full-time, exempt, generous benefits
