The Visual Communications crew is excited to welcome one and all to its summertime series BEST OF THE FEST 2009, celebrating favorites from the 25th anniversary Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Meanwhile, we continue the “summer of Japanimation” at the Pacific Asia Museum, and have extended the deadline for the 2009/2010 Armed With a Camera Fellowship applications. Thanks for supporting our activities, and we’ll see you at the movies!

July 25: BEST OF THE FEST Begins
Summer Showcase Spotlights Film Fest ’09 Faves

moustache_bros BOOYAKA! IT’S HERE…Visual Communications is pleased to present “Best of the Fest ’09”, a showcase of favorites from the 25th anniversary Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. The complete program line-up, as well as ticket and parking info is now live at vconline. We’re proud to kick things off this Saturday, July 25, with the lead-off program, “Global Groove,” anchored by Eric Tandoc’s SOUNDS OF THE NEW HOPE, a moving portrait of local hip-hop legend MC Kiwi Illafonte (of Native Guns fame) and his efforts to empower youths both in the SF Bay and slums of Manila through hip-hop and spoken word. Summer-Long Anime Film Fest Continues In Pasadena

As part of its major exhibition “The Samurai Re-Imagined,” the Pacific Asia Museum and Visual Communications are proud to present the Museum’s Anime Film Festival. This Thursday at 8 pm, screening outdoors in the museum’s beautiful courtyard garden, patrons can enjoy extended gallery hours:

VC’s AWC Fellowship Submissions Deadline EXTENDED to JULY 31

You didn’t misread that…the submission deadline for Visual Communications’ groundbreaking Armed With a Camera Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists has been extended to July 31, 2009. The Fellowship, which debuted in 2002, seeks up-and-coming filmmakers; this year’s Fellowship class especially welcomes applicants of South Asian and Pacific Islander descent. Coming Aug. 2: DEAD TREES @ NCPD
VC to Host New Feature Film Starring Kathy Uyen, Local Stars

Visual Communications will host a free screening of locally-based director Huy Chheng’s feature-length debut DEAD TREES on Sunday, August 2nd, 2009, 7 p.m. at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (NCPD), 111 North Central Ave., in Los Angeles Little Tokyo.
