A film made by Vietnamese college students grabbed first prize in the horror category at the International Student Film Festival Hollywood this week.
The 4th was directed and produced by Nguyen Do Khoa, Le Nhu Anh, Nguyen Uy Vu, Nguyen Hoang Duy and Truong Thang Khoa from the Interactive Media Design Department at Raffles International College Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.
It was chosen to be screened alongside 63 other official selections at the two-day Los Angeles festival. A total of 250 movies participated in the seventh annual event.
Titled So tu (The Death Number) in Vietnamese, the 20-minute film is about a mysterious and possibly haunted fourth story of a house. It was the first Vietnamese film nominated at the festival.
The film features Khoa’s friends from the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities as volunteer actors.
The entire budget was around VND3.5 million (US$196), Khoa said.
At the festival, the film crew had the chance to meet several filmmakers from all over the world.
The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Vietnam Young Talents Fund provided the team with VND20 million ($1,120) to bring their film to the festival, which ends Sunday.
