“If you saw or are seeing my movie, Oh, Saigon TODAY on PBS World (on now, or at 7pm & 1am ET/PT today!), or if you saw it before, I would love it if you became a fan of the official fb fan page here and posted your comments on the fan page. I’ll read them all there! Thanks! Lots of love!” – Director Doan Hoang

One-line synopsis: The last family helicoptered out of Saigon on the last day of the Vietnam War attempts to resolve its divided past. Three-line synopsis: Airlifted out of Vietnam on April 30, 1975, Doan Hoang’s family was on the last civilian helicopter out of the country at the end of the war. Twenty-five years later, she sets out to uncover their story. The film follows her family as they return to Vietnam after decades of exile, where her father, a former South Vietnamese major, meets his brothers again to confront their political differences: one was a Communist, the other a pacifist. Meanwhile, Hoang tries to reconcile her own difficult past with her half sister, who was mistakenly separated from the family during the escape.

I just spent a wonderful afternoon with you and your family.

I looked for you on the internet as I felt a need, to thank you for such a rewarding experience.

I will not forget seeing your dad’s smile, finally that terrible sadness gone.

Your film should be seen by all families, for we are all again, in the most important ways the same.

Again, thank you for your courage.

    Sincerely,
    Pat Ryan
